A phone can change everything

Inside the Reconnect Project and why a safe phone matters so much.

Reconnect by Empowered Insights: donate a device, change a life

Leaving an abusive situation often means losing more than a relationship. For many survivors, it also means losing the technology that connects them to safety, support and opportunity.

Some flee without a phone at all. Others are left using a device that an abuser monitors or controls, so even staying in touch can carry risk. Either way, the result is the same: isolation, at the very moment connection matters most.

What Reconnect does

The Reconnect Project provides secure, refurbished smartphones to survivors of domestic abuse. Each device is factory reset and securely wiped, then given, through trusted refuges and outreach partners, to people who need it.

A safe phone restores four things that abuse takes away:

  • Safety, a device that isn’t compromised, set up with safety in mind.
  • Connection, reaching support workers, family and friends again.
  • Access, vital services, appointments, benefits and emergency help.
  • Independence, a foundation for employment, education and rebuilding life.
Donate a device. Change a life. Small support, big impact, brighter future.

How you can help

We accept working mobile phones, tablets, chargers, cables and headphones. Devices are wiped securely and handled in line with GDPR. Organisations can become corporate device partners and refuges and outreach services can partner with us to get devices to the people they support.

Be part of it

Your old phone could help someone leave safely and start again.
